This week I met with Mitchell Bakken. Mitchell is a 17 year old senior at Wilton High
School. He joined scouts when he was in fifth grade.
The thing that he enjoyed most about being a scout was hanging out with his friends
at campouts and at camp Sequassen.
Some important things that he got out of being a scout was how to deal with
problems head on and in the moment. For example, problems that appear on
campouts.
If there was one thing he could change about scouts it would be for things to get
back to normal because of COVID.
His most memorable event was at one of his first campouts when he and some other
scouts tied a bungee cord to the top of a tent and hung their wet clothes on it. They
were bouncing it up and down and named it “Trunkie.”
Mitchell hasn’t started his Eagle Project yet, but he wants to do an outdoor
classroom for the school because of COVID.
I asked Mitchell if he could offer any advice to the younger scouts in the troop, what
would it be? He said to participate as much as possible because the years fly by.
